Founded in 1999 by voluntary participation of the National Academy Engineering of Korea, Korean Society for Engineering Education, National Council of Engineering Department Deans, Academic Associations of Engineering Education, Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Energy, Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, Human Resources Development Service of Korea, and companies including Hyundai Construction, Samsung Electronics, POSCO, LG Chemistry, and SK Telecom.
Has contributed to the nation by offering the standard and guidelines of education programs for engineering education in universities, promoting the development of engineering education through conducting accreditation and consultation, and producing professional engineers Joined as an associate member of the Washington Accord in June 2005 and became a regular member in 2007
International and Mutual Recognition of Engineering Education: Washington Accord
An international accreditation agreement for engineering academic degrees started from six signatories including the U.S., the United Kingdom, Australia, Canada, New Zealand, and Ireland to recognize accreditation for its signatory countries which was established in 1989
Regular Members (10 countries): The U.S., England, Australia, Canada, New Zealand, Ireland, South Africa, Hong Kong, Japan, and Singapore Associate Members (Four countries): Germany, Malaysia, Taiwan, and Korea
Basic Philosophy of the Accreditation System of Engineering Education
- Outcome-Based Education - Verifying educational objectives before conducting education and using results of the education to continuously improve the quality of education
- Demand-Driven Education - Setting the educational objectives of program through collecting the needs of faculty, administrator of school, and demander of the education including student, industry, country, and society.
